Air Force Civilian Professionals

Six civilian and three military Pest Management Professionals are assigned to Major Commands in the Air Force to serve as consultants and DoD Pest Management certifying officials for civilian and military pest management personnel.  Biologists (entomologists, foresters, or wildlife biologists) are assigned to work either in the Environmental Quality or Operations Divisions of the Command Civil Engineer to provide technical oversight, training, readiness and compliance with environmental laws for base pest management operations.   

 

One civilian Pest Management Professional is assigned to Headquarters, Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency to serve as the Air Force Pest Management Subject Matter Expert.  Duties include development of Air Force policies for base operations and contingency integrated pest management, aerial application of pesticides, grounds maintenance, and Bird Air Strike Hazard (BASH) management of insects, rodents, weeds, and nuisance wildlife on airfields that threaten aircraft safety. 

 

One Civilian Medical Entomologist is assigned to the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, Epidemiology Consulting Services.  Arthropod and rodent pests of medical significance are identified and screened for disease agents to improve military occupational health and readiness.
